Birmingham's Batonbearers

Karl Randall, Birmingham Batonbearer

Karl Randall is our Local Engineering Manager, Highways for Birmingham North and has worked for the council ‘man and boy’ almost 40 years…and he was pleasantly surprised at being nominated to be a baton bearer and says it’s a ‘huge great honour’.

As a member of the elite ‘100 marathon club’, Karl is well qualified to run around with the baton but, this is one occasion when he will be on a go slow and not looking for a Personal Best.

Karl started running marathons at the age of 40 when he thought about his general well-being and fitness and hasn’t looked back. Along the road he has raised money for many charities and having completed his 500th marathon run in March!

Karl now focuses on supporting and encouraging others to complete their charity runs. He inspires and supports others to achieve and overcome their challenges during races. Karl has made a huge contribution to this sport and some wonderful connections along the way.

As part of the highways team, he will be working during the games to help keep the roads in and out of Birmingham running smoothly to support the movement of athletes and supporters. Great Job Karl!
