Birmingham legacy journey

While Birmingham City Council (the council) has a role to support the delivery of all partner workstreams, it is leading on specific legacy programmes. This plan provides a framework for delivery and accountability. It identifies initiatives which are either directly associated with the Games Programme or exist within council directorates that could be accelerated by the Games. Our Games journey to date includes works initiated and significant progress made on the flagship Alexander Stadium, the development of the launch of the Host city vision and mission, the first round of the Celebrating Communities Small Grants Fund, the publication of the Cross partner Legacy Plan, the Commonwealth Collective Games Volunteers programme being launched, the ticket ballot going live and ‘Get Set for the Games’ readiness engagement planning with our partners underway.

We will partner in the most effective, productive and impactful way

The Birmingham 2022 Partner Legacy Plan, produced by the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee and partners, contains shared objectives covering a broad geographic area. Getting the best outcomes for Birmingham is at the heart of what we want to achieve from hosting the Games, and we can only do that together with key partners.

Birmingham 2022 partners have agreed to combine efforts for maximum impact in five ways:

  • bring people together
  • improve health and wellbeing
  • help the region to grow and succeed
  • be a catalyst for change and
  • put us on the global stage.

By doing this we create an environment for continued successful future collaborations, ultimately bringing more benefits to the city and the region.
