Cllr John Cotton with members of the Sikh Nari Manch community organisationThe Northside Welcome Centre is a community hub in the heart of Erdington providing a welcoming and inclusive space for all with various training, community drop-in sessions, classes, and support and guidance for local people.

The Centre was established by the local Sikh community but provides opportunities for all the community, following the Sikh concept of Sarbat Da Bhalla or “service for the benefit of all”.

They are running a series of sessions to raise awareness of the Commonwealth Games, to embrace diversity and unity between the different countries and communities, including learning about the history, culture, food and art of the Commonwealth countries.

This work has created a real positive buzz around the Commonwealth, uniting people with their positive history and showing everyone is connected. It has also given the Centre the opportunity to reach out to people in the local community and get them coming back into the venue once again.
